All videos are in real time with me walking you through each step. There is minimal speeding up of videos only where I am doing things we have already covered in the class prior.
This is a painting workshop focused on creating imperfect portraits in art journals. What you learn in this class is my unique way of creating ‘journal girl’ faces and painting them with acrylics.
I think of my portraits as ‘perfectly imperfect’ because they are never perfectly aligned, they may or may not meet standards for required beauty. They are each one unique and quirky. A lot like me really. Probably a lot like you are too.
If you want to make a unique and different face each time then this class is for you. If you want to make the same perfect face over and over then this class may not be for you.
The first week I do cover how I draw a face, and I do walk you through my technique and style. So you can learn to draw my style of faces in this class. What you will not get is a full on course in realistic portraiture. In fact I really only focus on a full face drawing. So if you are looking for a profile or 3/4 view then this is not the workshop for that.
Already have your drawings much the way you want them but need help with shading or painting them into life? This is the workshop for that.
In this 6 week workshop I will walk you through drawing 7 full portraits, painting each one in a different skin tone and overall palette. Each portrait will have different hair styles and little quirks that make her different.
We will also learn about the supplies I use, layering color, washes and glazing. And cover common challenges such as emotions in your portraits, fixing your mistakes and even changing a painting 1/2 way through to alter the expression of the subject.
Every face you draw deserves to be painted. Never again will you toss aside or paint over one of your faces.
And for those of you who do not draw I include a template of all 7 portraits. The last three though should show you that every face can and should be drawn and painted. With just a little practice and a few tips you can draw simple faces and turn them into works of art in your art journal.
